Being rechargeable is a must because you need to recharge them every night (they do not have a shut off switch). I had the same collar that required batteries (a special 6 volt battery that cost over $4 each) and they would not last more than a few days before the battery was dead. <br /> <br />I just emailed the company about getting a replacement for the collars. And will update this review when I hear back from them. It had extra accessories which I didn't expect and I am sure will be useful (two extra waterproof battery hole covers, two extra electrodes, 6 batteries). The collars are easy to adjust in size and seem to be comfortable. The remote is nice although it has a cheap feel, I have had no problems. The plastic shocker doo-dad is smaller than I expected and has rounded edges so is less bulky than others available and appears more streamlined. The settings are markedly different and while I am still getting the hang of training my younger dog with it, the older dog has pretty much ceased from his habitual barking habit. <br /> <br />The only reason I did not give 5 stars for this product is the batteries only last a few days to a week and it's not like we use it constantly or anything.
