WalkyDog Hands Free Bicycle Dog Leash – The official Walky Dog BRAND NAME

I’m not sure if this is allowed but I would like an opinion between which Bicycle Dog Leash works best, the WalkyDog or The Springer? I have a 55 lb GoldenDoodle.

I have a 20lb boston terrier that loves to run with me on my bike. In the past I had been using a retractable leash and just holding onto it, but occasionally my dog would run too close to my tire and I’d have to swerve around him so I wanted something more safe. After reading through all the reviews I purchased this product. It’s definitely not built for smaller dogs. The leash that hangs off the horizontal bar attachment is not long enough to attach to my dog with his 4 legs on the ground, even after adjusting it to the longest length. I tried attaching the horizontal bar at a spot lower down on the bicycle which only caused my dog to be in the way of the pedals. There was just no way to make it work, so I had to return it.

This works perfectly. I have a 60lb golden and I only weigh 100lbs. At first, I had to just walk the bike around so that he could get used to it. He did pull me over 1 time when he spotted some kids that he wanted to play with. So, make sure that your dog has learned to restrain himself. Mine is still just a pup, so we are still working on walking manners. One thing that I did that improved the ride for me was to add a short extention that I made out of bungie cord. It gives him a little more room, so that he doesn’t have to be so close to the bike. Plus, it serves as a shock absorber for some of the pull that happens naturally. All in all, I love this item and my dog does too.

My dog is not much of a puller but he does like to go his own way. He is very well leash trained but my husband and I can definitely tell he usually has a lot more energy after his walks (he’s part black lab/ german shepherd/chow chow/border collie so he is pretty husky and has tones of energy!!). After we got the walkydog we exercised him quite a bit! He’s still building up his endurance level since he’s not used to being walked/run so far in one sitting at a faster pace/ It seems he’s getting to the point where he kind of dreads exercise because we’re the ones doing to pulling and forcing him to go where we go and not him LOL! We still take him on regular walks but it doesn’t beat wearing him out faster with the walkydog. We don’t overdo it so pls don’t think we’re abusing him/ The most we do with our bike is run him down to a pond and let him cool off in the water and play for awhile and then ride back up/ We did have some adjustment issues at first but they are fixed now We set it up just under the seat where there’s a pole under it connecting the seat to the rest of the bike in case it decides to try and fall off/
If you want another idea to keep it from slipping off then get a clamp kinda like the one the walkydog attaches to and screw that one in underneath for extra support on keeping the walkydog where it should be/ Excellent quality product compared to our bike! LOL Good luck to you all!

The WalkyDog is a great invention! This is my second one (my other one finally wore out!). My husband rescued a large dog a couple of years ago. After she gained weight and strength, it was quickly apparent that a brisk walk wasn’t enough exercise for her. I saw someone in the neighborhood with a Springer and inquired about it. My neighbor wasn’t fully satisfied with the Springer, so when I searched for one online and saw all of the great comments about WalkyDog, I opted for it instead. I use a lined harness (from Petco) with the WalkyDog, because she runs really fast and a regular harness was rubbing raw places on her chest. We ride twice a day, rain, shine, hot or cold, it doesn’t matter. She weighs about 75 pounds and has never once pulled me over on the bike. She lunges at squirrels, cats and other dogs, but the bike remains stable. I marvel that more people don’t use one. I couldn’t live without it!
